LIVINGSTON, NJ - While playing baseball on the nicest spring day of the season, the Livingston High School Varsity baseball team lost to Cedar Grove, 10-7, on Monday. It was a closely fought contest throughout.

In the bottom of the first inning, Lancer Omari Beaubien hit a deep fly ball to right-center field. Off his triple, two runners touched home, and then on the next play Beaubien too made it home on a sacrifice fly.

Mark Silvestri started on the mound for Livingston and let up only one run throughout three innings. Unfortunately, in the fourth inning, Cedar Grove tied up the game three all.

Livingston was then held scoreless through the bottom of the fourth inning, while Cedar Grove racked up a few more runs bringing the score to 10-3 in the fifth inning, which is where Silvestri was replaced by Ben Gilman as pitcher who was then replaced by Dom Gamba in the same inning.

At this point, it looked like Livingston was in a bad position, with only three innings left to bat. But they didn’t give up—and instead rallied back in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Next, #24 Shane McLaughlin brought in a run and moved a runner to third, while getting out in the process. Beaubien then brought the man at third in by hitting a grounder to the Cedar Grove shortstop that made an error and bobbled the ball. This was a spark for Livingston as they then scored another two runs in that inning, making the score 10-7, with Cedar Grove still in the lead.

It looked like Livingston was back in the game, but both teams were held scoreless throughout both the sixth and seventh innings.

Even though the Lancers lost the game, they fought hard and are ready to get a win on Tuesday night against Parsippany Hills at 7 p.m. at the Okner Parkway baseball fields.
