Possession of Narcotics (Two Adult Arrests and One Juvenile)

Two adults and one juvenile are facing drug charges after the vehicle they were traveling in was stopped for an equipment violation. On August 5th at 9:37 pm, Officer Jeffrey McCarrick was on routine patrol on Sparta Avenue near the intersection of Andover Road.
A short time later, the officer stopped a red 2000 Ford Explorer after he observed that it had an inoperable left headlight. As the officer was talking to the operator, 18-year-old Joseph T. DeSantis of Lake Hopatcong, the officer detected a strong odor of raw marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle.
After obtaining a Consent to Search of the vehicle, officers found and seized; a plastic ziplock bag containing 50 grams or less of marijuana, from the rear storage pocket on the driver’s seat, a second bag of marijuana under the front seat, a multi colored ceramic smoking pipe and rolling papers were found in a pack of cigarettes in the storage area on the driver’s door and two bags of marijuana and a glass smoking bowl was found in the possession of a 17-year-old female passenger from Fredon.
DeSantis, the female juvenile and a third passenger 18-year-old Dylan Molnar from Stockholm section of Hardyston were placed under arrest for Possession of Narcotics and transported to Police Headquarters for processing.
DeSantis was charged with; Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernaila, Possession of a Controlled dangerous Substance in a Motor Vehicle, Maintenance of Lamps, and Violating his Provisional Driver’s License. Molnar was charged with; Possession of Marijuana. Both men were released on their own recognizance.
