Possession of Narcotics (One Arrest)

A Sussex woman was arrested yesterday after she used an emergency cut through on Rte 15.  At 2:40 pm, Officer Brian Hassloch was on routine patrol on Rte 15 south near the East Mountain Bridge when he observed a 2006 black Honda SUV parked in the emergency cut.

The officer pulled in behind the Honda to investigate.  While speaking to the operator, 19-year-old Christina Berardi of Bantry Terrace, The officer could detect a strong odor of marijuana.  Subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of Berardi after she was found in possession of 50 grams or less of marijuana and several pieces of drug paraphernalia. 

Berardi was transported to Police Headquarters for processing.  She was charged with; Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Motor Vehicle and Improper Use of a Divided Highway-Crossing.  Berardi was determined not to be under the influence and was later released on her own recognizance.  Cpl. Andrew Smetana assited with the investigation.
