CLARK, NJ – The Clark Police Department has received 22 reports of burglaries of unlocked cars Thursday morning.  Reports were received from residents of Hillcrest Drive, Thomas Drive, Grove Street, Orchard Terrace, Briarheath Lane and Stonehenge Terrace. There are no suspects at this time.

Police Chief Alan Scherb said that in every case the doors of the vehicles were unlocked.  “Of the 22 reports, not one was forced entry,” said Scherb, “The cars were unlocked, parked on the road or in a driveway.”

He urged residents to lock their cars. “The best thing to do is just lock the cars. It goes back to that. Use your remote, push the button,” he said.

The crimes occurred through the night, likely after 11:00 or 11:30 p.m., when most victims said they went to bed. The burglaries were discovered this morning.

While the police have increased overnight patrols in the area since the last string of incidents was reported on July 29, 2014, Scherb said, "We can't be everywhere at once. We encourage residents to report any suspicious noises or activity through the night. People hear something outside and think it must just be an animal, but they should let us know, give us a call.”
