NEWARK, NJ—Speed and agility are two key assets for any soccer player to have. When an entire team has it then it is extremely dangerous for their opponent. Livingston found that out the hard way Friday night in Newark when Newark East Side dominated every facet of the game as they went on to defeat Livingston 7-1.

East Side, the eight seed, played smarter and faster soccer than their counter-part, the Lancers. Diogo Ribero started the high-scoring affair off with a laser in the top right corner in the 8th minute. Shortly after, six minutes to be exact, Shamar Smart played a beautiful cross to Jeysoon Ruiz and within 14 minutes the Red Raiders took a 2-0 lead.

East Side, which is accustomed to playing a more offensive formation to utilize their speed, started the game in a defensive-friendly strategy using more midfielders. This formation changed provided multiple counter attacks from those extra midfielders.

The Red Raiders took a 3-0 lead into half and Livingston knew it would be tough to rebound.

The Lancers’ chances became even harder when Ruiz began the second half with his second goal of the game now giving East Side a 4-0 lead. Jason Goncalves would go on to score two goals in the second half and Arthur Andrade and Oluwatobi Jato each had a goal of their own.

Livingston’s lone goal came in the 66th minute from Zack Chaikin.
