Roseland Residents Strongly Encouraged to Subscribe to Alert Notification System

ROSELAND, NJ - The Alert Notification System was put to the test during the recent storms in Roseland. Residents who registerd with the free program online received numerous telephone calls from Mayor John Duthie with updates regarding storm damages and repairs. Those who didn’t answer the phone received instead a text message which transcribed the Mayor’s comments.
Additionally, Roseland residents who subscribed to the Alert system were also continuously updated during the storm through town announcements on Facebook and Twitter.
Patty Braga of Roseland commented:
“The Roseland alert system is awesome....it was very informative during Hurricane Sandy.”
Roseland Councilman Thomas Tsilionis, who heads up the town’s Communications and Technology Committee explained:
“If there is anything we learned in the last year, it is that traditional notification methods do not always work during emergencies.
Websites, public access television channels and Reverse 911 calls - which cater to broadcasting messages to landline phones - provide valuable information.
However, they are inaccessible during power outages and are hard to modify remotely.
Many residents also have unpublished numbers and are not in the Reverse 911 database.
In Roseland, we have developed a very unique emergency notification system."
Roseland resident Carol Corcoran is pleased with the notifications:
“The alert system kept me informed on the power status during Hurricane Sandy!”
The system currently reaches over 90% of Roseland residents
It has over 2,818 landline and 3,011 mobile telephone numbers that accept SMS Text Messages.
The notification system emails a copy of each message to the 4,219 email subscribers in Roseland's database, and also posts a copy on Roseland's Facebook and Twitter pages.

“The Roseland Alert System has provided much needed information in many situations,” stated Sherry Walz-Eisenhardt. “It's something we can all benefit from and we're grateful to have it.”
“Having the ability to communicate with 9 out of 10 households during an emergency is an amazing accomplishment.
However, 1 out of every 10 households still does not subscribe to the system.“
Roseland is striving to further increase their Alert System to encompass all of their residents.
Roseland residents are strongly encouraged to subscribe to Roseland's Alert Notification System.
To do so, they can visit the Roseland website at www.roselandnj.org and click on the Alert tab in the upperleft hand corner. Once there residents can enter their Mobile Phone Number, Primary Phone Number, Email Address and Home Address to be completely up to date within the Alert System.
