WEST CALDWELL, NJ - Last night, Tuesday, Dec.18, a Bergenfield woman who was not using the crosswalk, was struck by a car while crossing Passaic Avenue in West Caldwell. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Nick Bellomo, of Roseland, is the individual who reported the incident. Last night he commented to the West Essex TAP, “I just witnessed a pedestrian get hit in front of the CVS in West Caldwell. I dialed 911 seconds after it happened. The West Caldwell Police Department response time was beyond amazing.”
The 63-year-old Bergenfield woman was trying to cross Passaic Avenue when she was hit by a Honda Civic, driven by a woman from Caldwell. The Civic was in the right lane, driving north on Passaic.
Chief Michael Bramhall of the West Caldwell Police Department described, “At approximately 7:45pm, officers responded to a report of a Pedestrian struck near the intersection of Bloomfield and Passaic Avenues. Officers responded and found the pedestrian in the roadway, approximately 200 feet south of the Bloomfield/Passaic intersection.“
The woman was not crossing in a designated cross-walk.
Chief Bramhall continued, “The investigation is pending, but preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the vehicle, a 65 year old female from Caldwell, was operating a Honda Civic north bound in the right lane, when a 63 year old female from Bergenfield was attempting to cross the road. The pedestrian was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital with moderate, non-life threatening injuries.
Bellomo added, “That women is a lucky person. She just got her early Christmas gift. Life.”
