NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - While it is true beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Skin Deep Day Spa in New Providence does its best to make every woman look and feel beautiful.  The salon and spa, which does much more than hair and nails, was founded by Susan Barbaglia 19 years ago.

“I don’t think anybody’s like us,” she said. “We really are personable.”

Barbaglia, who had a smaller salon before opening Skin Deep Day Spa, said she started her business because of the need for it in the community. While there were salons and spas in the community, there was nothing she liked, she said.

“Nobody had what I wanted,” Barbaglia said.  “My vision was to have the high-end quality care and service that made a difference.”

Today, it has become one of the most popular places in the area and she never imagined it would be this successful.

She said Skin Deep Day Spa stands out amongst competitors because of excellent customer service and hardworking employees who are extensively trained.  Barbaglia stated that all of the products both used and sold are tested and result-oriented.

Skin Deep offers body treatments, massages, skin care treatments, makeup, clinical peels, hair removal, spa packages, manicures and pedicures, and hair and scalp treatments.

Many of their customers come from referrals and, after almost 20 years in business, she still wants more clients, she said. Women who don’t know about Skin Deep need to come there for one of their renowned facials, she said.

“Yes, we will make you feel good, but we also want a result,” Barbaglia said. “There’s nobody in this area that does facials like us.”

While they aim to be cutting edge and offer a variety of services for women, the staff also does numerous activities to help and give back to the community, she said.

Skin Deep is also undergoing its third renovation and is expanding into the space next door where a restaurant used to be. As part of the expansion, there will be a locker room for women, a larger reception area and a quiet room in which to relax. Barbaglia said the goal is to make it bigger, better and attract more clients.

“I think that every expansion we’ve done has been very positive,” she said.  “It just kind of sparks us up and makes us active and alive again.”
