WESTFIELD, NJ—Update: Westfield High School's 2012 "Pink Out!" raised $18,470 to be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and on October 12 the Westfield High School volleyball teams and Breast Cancer Awareness Club teamed up to put on a tournament against East Brunswick to support the fight against breast cancer.

“Our Pink Out tournament was a success!” said Stacey Boretz, mom of WHS Varsity Captain Nicole Boretz and one of the event’s volunteers.

Although the WHS freshman lost to East Brunswick, the JV and Varsity teams both won, with the scores from the Varsity teams’ three games WHS 21 to EB 25, WHS 25 to EB 21 and WHS 25 to EB 13.

“It was an exciting night,” said Boretz.

A serving contest open to all attendees and a silent auction also took place. Breast cancer survivors were  honored in a special procession led by WHS Coach Beverly Torok, a breast cancer survivor herself, at the conclusion of the event. All proceeds will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
