MILLBURN, NJ - Milburn’s annual street fair was held on Sunday along Spring Street and Milburn Avenue.

Local businesses and street vendors of all sorts came together to offer residents unique foods, items and special sales.

Hair salon, Forbici, located on 256 Millburn Ave., offered specials for blow drys and massages as well as discounts on professional hair products.

Manager and hair stylist, Maggie Rodriguez said Forbici has been a part of the fair for years.

“This is a chance to touch base with our area and be a part of the community’s festivities,” Rodriguez said. “It also gives us a chance to tell people about our salon and accommodating services.”

Some stands took the opportunity to use the fair as platform to help others in need.

Down the Block, a New Jersey non-profit corporation helps Millburn and Short Hills residents in financial distress.

“We pay bills directly to a creditor to bridge the gap to help them get back on their feet,” President Wendy Minocha said. “We are neighbors helping neighbors.”

Minocha said that she and treasurer, David Sotnicka attended the fair “to build awareness, find new applicants, and new donors.”

Dystonia patient, Jake Silverman, 16, set up a table at the fair to promote Jake’s Ride for Dystonia Research which will take place on Sunday, September 30 at Hartshorn Elementary School in Short Hills.

Silverman explained he wanted to be a part of the fair to raise awareness as well as inform attendees of Jake’s Ride.

“So far we’ve raised $1 million and our hope this year is to raise $250,000 more,” Silverman said. “We’re looking forward to the Ride and hope that people can come out to support.”
