Ed Foundation Announces Judges for the Millburn Film Fest

After a hugely successful inaugural Red Carpet Premiere, it’s almost time for the 2nd annual Millburn Film Fest on Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m. at Millburn High School. Opening the film fest last year was Millburn graduate, Jon Kilik, the Academy Award nominated producer of ‘The Hunger Games.’

Over 500 community members in attendance viewed eight original Millburn students’ films. The top short films chosen by the judges will be shown at the Red Carpet Premiere and at an Encore Performance at Millburn Clearview Cinema Thursday April, 18 at 11 a.m.

The Education Foundation of Millburn-Short Hills and Academy Award Sponsors Gonella Team Real Estate and Regal Bank are proud to announce the panel of judges for the 2nd annual Millburn Film Fest. Judges for this year will be Joe Kernen (Author & CNBC news anchor), Tim Drucker (Writer, Director, & Actor), Sara Louise Lazarus (Producer, Director, Writer, & Acting Coach), Nancy Dries (Producer & Communications Coordinator), Trish Gonnella Russo (Disney & Miramax Production), and The Millburn-Short Hills Arts Advisory Committee under the Direction of Curator and Art Consultant, Laraine Brennan Barach.

Joe Kernen is a CNBC news anchor and co-host of CNBC’s Squawk Box. Kernen has worked as a stockbroker and earned a masters degree in developmental biology from MIT. Kernen lives in town with his family and co-wrote a book with his daughter Your Teacher Said What? Defending Our Kids from the Liberal Assault on Capitalism.

Tim Drucker, a 2002 graduate of Millburn, debuted his Off-Broadway musical ‘Fat Camp’ last spring and it will appear on Broadway in 2013-2014. Drucker has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from NYU Tisch and has also co-written ‘Spidermusical,’ ‘Perez Hilton Saves the Universe.’  Original cast albums of his musicals will be released by Yellow Sound Label this summer. He is 1/3 of the Other Baldwins comedy trio. Their most recent work HAUTE MESS received a project residency at Ars Nova.

Sara Louise Lazarus, a Millburn resident, is known in town for producing and directing the benefit "Stars Over Millburn," co-directing five New Voices concerts at Paper Mill Playhouse, and for her articles in The Alternative Press. Lazarus is an award-winning theatre and cabaret director, and a nationally recognized performance coach.

Nancy Dries is former producer at CBS News & the Communication Coordinator for the Millburn Public Schools.

Milburn alum, Trish Gonnella Russo earned a masters in film production from the Peter Stark Producers Program at USC.  She was the coordinator for Motion Picture Production at Disney and had worked in the production department at Miramax.

The Millburn-Short Hills Arts Advisory Committee’s15 year mission has been to enhance and advance the arts in Millburn Township.  The Committee curates and conserves this community’s significant 350 piece Art collection. They curate Art shows, and events (Appraisal Days) and Sculpture projects. For 7years under the guidance of Laraine Brennan Barach, Art Advisory has sponsored the highly acclaimed Millburn/Short Hills Art Advisory Scholarship. The committee is comprised of recognized Leaders in the Art Community, professional Artists, Sculptors, Television and Film producers, Art directors, Set Decorators, and Gallery owners.

“We were so impressed with the films last year and can hardly wait to see the films this year. We are so appreciative of the community support and we are lucky to live in a town with such talented individuals that have given their time to judge and take part in the film fest,” commented co-presidents Amy Talbert and Debbie Rieder who are busy organizing the Millburn Schools Rock Event March 8th at the Crestmont Country Club.
