BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ - More than 50 Sussex County business owners came out on Thursday night to enjoy the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce's first Business After Hours event of the year, at Down to the Bone Barbecue & Company.

"This is one of our more social events," Tammie Horsfield, Sussex County Chamber of Commerce President told The Alternative Press about the Business After Hours' style of networking. "It's a chance for everyone to get to know one another, one on one."

The chamber hosts a variety of events for its members, including a monthly breakfast (click here for the article about February's breakfast). The breakfasts run on the second Tuesdays of each month starting at 7:30 a.m., except for during the summer months, and are an opportunity for a larger group of chamber members to meet. They differ from the Business After Hours in the sense that breakfasts have a formal format, with speakers, networking time between fellow business owners at each others' table, and more.

The Sussex County Chamber of Commerce also oversees the Society of Young Professionals, another arm of the chamber recently featured in The Alternative Press. Click here for the article.

At the most recent bi-monthly Business After Hours, the members had the opportunity, in addition to one another's company, to enjoy some BBQ Fusion hors d'oeuvres, and cash bar.

Jeff Feldstein, owner of Down to the Bone Barbecue & Company, opened his doors for the members of the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce, who filled up most of the establishment during the evening, while nibbling on an eclectic mix of gourmet appetizers, such as pulled pork egg rolls. Down to the Bone Barbecue & Company has made a name for itself as well for its accompanying sauces, with its BBQ sauce ranked one of the Top 10 choices in the New Jersey State BBQ Competition.

The chamber gave out door prizes, as it usually does at its networking events, with some lucky winners taking home, among things, $25 gift certificates to Down to the Bone Barbecue & Company.

Horsfield said there are some upcoming Business After Hours in the works, with one planned for Jimmy's Italian Tavern (aka Main Street Grille) in Andover Borough, and Perona Farms in Andover Township.

Horsfield also announced some of the chamber's upcoming events. The next Business to Business breakfast is coming up on Tuesday, March 12, and will be held at the Lafayette House, starting at 7:30 a.m., with Lakeland Bank as this month's breakfast sponsor. Rounding out the month of March, is the 28th Annual Quality in Business, Quality in Living Awards Dinner, beginning with cocktail hour at 6 p.m., and the dinner and awards commencing at 7 p.m., on Thursday, March 28, at the Lake Mohawk Country Club.

On Saturday, May 4, Sussex County Family Fest will be held at Sussex County Community College. Family Fest is a day's worth of events, from wellness, to things to do with the kids, showcases of chamber businesses, and many other fun, and educational things to do in between.

The Scholarship Golf Outing, one of the largest chamber fundraisers, is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, with the location and more information, currently to be announced.

Another active upcoming event will take place on National Trails Day, on Saturday, June 1. The chamber has a very active trails committee, which has helped to rehabilitate and maintain some of Sussex County's trails.

"This year on National Trails Day, we'll have our first 5K on the trails," said Horsfield.
