The Perks:

If you have a membership to The Connection, you already know that they offer a plethora of activities for you and your children, including swim lessons, music, dance, gymnastics, mommy and me classes, and a lot more!  If you are not a member (like me) you may be surprised to know that The Connection currently offers two great “drop in” programs that are open to the public. Both are just $6 per child (for ages infant-5) and do require that you stay with your child to supervise.  Adults are free.

The first is called “Drop In and Play.”  This takes place every day except Thursday from 12 - 1 p.m.  It offers a big, open room where kiddies can crawl, run and jump themselves into exhaustion (just in time for their afternoon nap!)  There actually isn’t a whole lot in the room (a lot of mats, balls, some balance beams, a few toys) but this means all the more room to “be free!”  The second program offered to non-members is called “Jump In and Swim.”  This program is offered Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:25 a.m.  You and your child can jump into the heated indoor pool and have a blast with all of the floaties and pool toys.  I love that there is no commitment to these classes - - you just show up and purchase your ticket at the front desk.  Perfect for a rainy day!

The Poops:

The parking lot is often full.  You’ll need to wait for a spot or find parking on the street.

Although my 16 month old had a grand time in the pool, trying to change into dry clothes afterwards was nearly impossible.  I planned ahead by bringing in the stroller, which I hoped to use as a holding ground for my son while I got changed.  (He’s not quite at the age that understands “just sit here next to mommy for a few minutes”)  The “NO STROLLERS ALLOWED” sign on the locker room door forced me to throw my clothes on over my wet suit while holding a squirming, whining 24-pound kid.  Not fun!  I’d recommend going with a friend or waiting until your child is a just a bit older (or young enough to be plopped into an infant carrier.)

Adults, you must go IN the pool too - - no watching from the bench.  Don’t forget your bathing suit!
