30 million people suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their life, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, or an eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS). These disorders are serious, biologically based illnesses that are increasing among our youth, are linked to other addictive behaviors, and can lead to severe, chronic conditions, and even death. Meanwhile, society’s focus on curbing obesity can be very confusing, and even detrimental.
