In honor of Back History Month, Fairleigh Dickinson University’s “Politics on the PublicMind” lecture series will feature several distinguished speakers throughout the month of February, including author David Margolick; Franklyn Jenifer, president emeritus of the University of Texas; and David Wilson a researcher from the University of Delaware.

Margolick will speak on February 2, Jenifer will speak on February 9, and Wilson will present on February 23. All the events will take place on Thursdays, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Lenfell Hall.

Margolick is the author of “Elizabeth and Hazel: Two Women of Little Rock.” The Elizabeth in the title was one of the “Little Rock Nine”—a group of nine black students who desegregated Little Rock Central High School as part of Brown v. Board of Education. Hazel, the other woman in the book, was a white high school student at the same school and both Hazel and Elizabeth appeared in a famous photo that exposed segregation. Margolick will speak about these two women and segregation. Margolick is a contributing editor at Vanity Fair.

Besides serving as president of the University of Texas at Dallas, Jenifer was also president of Howard University. He was recently named to FDU’s Board of Trustees for a three-year term. Howard University is a historically black university located in Washington, D.C.

Wilson is an associate professor of political science at the University of Delaware. He will speak about his research on how individuals use racial, gendered, and other social group information to formulate their expressed public opinions and attitudes.
