Kent Place Athletics Dominate Weekend Union County Tournament Games

Kent Place School had a tremendous weekend in athletics. Varsity Soccer defeated Oak Knoll in round 2 of the Union County Tournament on Saturday. Freshman Orna Madigan kicked the goal to tie up the score 1-1. The game then went into double overtime and was ultimately won with penalty kicks. Kent Place connected on its first four penalty kick attempts thanks to Anna Doherty ‘13, Orna Madigan ‘15, Alexandra Aronson ‘15 and Caroline Groce ‘14. Kent Place's goalkeeper, Liza Kowalik ‘13 put Oak Knoll in the hole immediately by making a diving stop on their first attempt. Kowalik came up huge for the Dragons with two amazing saves to win the game. The Dragons advance to play Westfield away on Wednesday, October 19 at 4:00 p.m.

Varsity Field Hockey hosted Summit at home for a Saturday afternoon game with a decisive 4-0 victory. Senior Alex Agathis had a goal and two assists. Annie Turnbull ‘12, Dylan Blanchard ’13 and Elizabeth Zusi ‘12 also registered goals for third-seeded Kent Place in the Union County Tournament quarterfinal. The Dragons will advance to play A.L. Johnson away for a Saturday night game on October 22 at 6:00 p.m.

Kent Place has established 12 varsity sports, and our teams continue to achieve high levels of success and produce winning records. We have won championships at the state, county and conference levels. Our varsity athletes have earned individual honors, and each year more Kent Place athletes go on to successfully compete at the college level.
