The Great Cupcake Quest – Supreme Bakery, West Orange, NJ – Their Name Equates To The Quality You’ll Find There

The name “Supreme” in Supreme Bakery says it all in terms of everything about the excellence of the baked goods and services that you’ll experience with a visit there.

I can vouch for my statement, since I had a fantastic stop at this West Orange, NJ cornerstone.

As my regular readers know, I’ve devoted some of my column to exploring certain culinary facets of New Jersey.

A gastronomical journey seeking out New Jersey’s best cheesecakes had been one of my missions, as well as more recently, sampling and then sharing the best places to grab cupcakes in the Garden State.

“At Supreme Bakery, we’re happy to make one cupcake or a thousand,” said the bakery’s owner and master baker, Richard Stolz in this video (click here to watch), created by another West Orange business talent, Vidoovy.com (after watching the Supreme video, explore the other great videos about a number of West Orange businesses).

And I know after visiting Supreme Bakery, they stand behind this statement.

I had the pleasure to walk in to Supreme Bakery to make a purchase – that alone is a treat in itself because everything in the glass cases there has eye appeal. And then once you eat one of their baked goods, your taste buds will agree with your eyes.

Of course, my vision was honed in on their incredible selection of cupcakes, yet, I was sure I did not have tunnel vision, and looked at all their other offerings too.

What I noticed right away was the creativity of the cakes – so many different and unique varieties. They were all so attractively decorated.

For my little girl, I picked a flower – a flower cupcake that is. Supreme Bakery had a flower cupcake garden, all superbly accented, and looking very delicious.

For my son, I thought he would absolutely love a blue lollipop cupcake (and he did enjoy both the cupcake and its lollipop, so I was right).  I thought it was an original idea to have a candy incorporated into the cupcake.

Since I have tried so many different types of cupcakes under the sun in my cupcake quests, and, sometimes after a while I end up finding similar types in different bakeries, I was seeking something new.

A coconut cupcake on the menu was my choice.

The cupcakes are affordably priced for the quality, and, worth every penny.

If you click onto Supreme Bakery’s website, there is an order form for their cupcakes – it can even be emailed.

That is something I really admire about this bakery. It is steeped in classic tradition – owned by the Stolz Family for 42 years, with a bakery at this location for over 100 years in West Orange. And Supreme Bakery is current in the sense customers can order and communicate with the bakery online. They have an impressive website.

Not only do they offer cupcakes, their bakery also boasts a cupcake cake. Made with minimally 12 cupcakes, and, up to 30 cupcakes, the cost is $1.70 a cupcake. I think that’s an excellent price for some delectable cupcakes in a cake form.

I can confirm, since I tried not only my cupcake, and tasted the flower and lollipop cupcakes too, they were wonderful. The cakes were delicious, the icings with the right amount of sweetness and flavor.  My children and I (we split each cupcake in half so we could enjoy our treats over two days) gobbled our cakes down once we sunk our teeth into them on both occasions.

Supreme Bakery describes themselves as a “full line bakery”, with not just cupcakes or cookies, and many types of items on their menu. They create cakes for all occasions. Check out their website, and you can see some very extraordinary designs. They also sell pies and pastries. And, there are some other great finds at Supreme Bakery: many choices within the categories of donuts, Danish, muffins, coffee rings, New York Style Bagels, rolls, and other selections (Apple Turnover, croissants, and tea biscuits). Top off your baked goods with a hot cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate, or iced coffee or tea. They also sell a large container of coffee to go, with 10 cups and sugar, milk and cream. That is only $9.95, or, under $1.00 per person…that is a deal in this day and age when most places charge much more for one cup.

Supreme is a kosher bakery, supports charitable organizations in the community (they help to feed people in need at three local soup kitchens - something I felt was very noble about this business when I heard about this act of service), and sells their products wholesale and retail.

I admired the friendliness and professionalism of the staff of Supreme Bakery. They were so helpful – one of the gentlemen came out to the front of the bakery wearing his tall chef’s toque style hat, and explained to me about their baked goods. In this fast-paced world, you don’t always find that neighborhood-friendly service, and, Supreme Bakery has it.

I suggest stopping in for a visit. Since many of us are reconnecting with family and friends during this holiday week, and, celebrating the New Year, it’s a good time to support a local merchant while you may have some days off. Or, if you’re bringing the baked goods while visiting or hosting parties, pick them up at Supreme Bakery. They also ship their baked goods, so why not surprise a friend out of the area with a heavenly New Jersey treat?

Check out their website for all they have to offer: https://www.supremebakery.com/.

Then take a trip to 40 Main Street, West Orange. Supreme Bakery can be reached by phone: (973) 736-1732.
