Over the past years Shiraz has been taking a hit in the market, sales of Australian Shiraz are at their lowest these days. The last thing we need is an expensive Shiraz from South Africa, but after trying this one, I forgot all about the stigma, this is an amazing supple but medium to full body shiraz, made by the winery that got Winery of the Year designation by the all important South African Wine Index.
On the nose it has hints of smoke, baking spices, blackberry and currants, I could just sit there and smell the wine all day. After taking a sip I realized that would have been a big mistake, the wine is powerful but silky at the same time, flavors of blackberry, plum and spices burst on the palate, leading up to an amazing smooth and extremely long finish.
Great with:
On its own
Meats
Hard cheeses
Occasion to drink it
Great BYOB wine
Going to a wine snob’s house
Getting together with good friends
