What is Compounding?
Before pharmaceutical companies started to mass produce drugs, compounding was a basic entity to the profession of pharmaceuticals, and the main means of providing prescription medications.

According to Dr. Kim,  “With a physician’s consent, a compounding pharmacist can change the strength of a medication, alter its form to make it easier for the patient to ingest, and add flavor to it to make it more palatable.  The pharmacist may also prepare the medication using several unique delivery systems, such as rapid dissolving tablets or lozenges, a lollipop, or a transdermal gel.

For patients having difficulty swallowing capsules, a compounding pharmacist will be able to address his or her needs by providing liquid dosages of the required medication.

Compounding combines the latest pharmaceutical technology, physical science and medicine to provide customized medication to each patients’ specific needs. With compounded medication, the patient receives, “just what the doctor ordered!”
