Atlantic Health’s Overlook Medical Center promotes The Robert H. Mulreany Health Sciences Library.
The Robert H. Mulreany Health Sciences Library is located on the 5th floor past the main lobby at Overlook Medical Center. The library’s available hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Fridays. For employees and physicians, the services are accessible 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Overlook Medical Center’s library has a full-range of free, available services and resources. It contains approximately 3,000 books and hundreds of newsletters, magazines, videos, and free pamphlets for the public. The research and information found can be at either a clinical or non-clinical level. References, medical and health databases, and software are available to physicians and employees, while photocopy machines, fax machines, laser printers, VCRs, DVD players, and computers with free WiFi are offered to the general public.
The Robert H. Mulreany Health Sciences Library offers easy and accessible ways to benefit from their resources. There are online sources that enable the public to ask the librarians questions, in which they provide immediate responses. This involves filling out an online form, submitting it, and receiving reliable and informative responses. This online service is proven to be extremely effective, as it combines the consumer health and medical collections of the Atlantic Health System libraries with the knowledge of the National Library of Medicine. Another option requires a phone call to the library, where the staff will send pamphlets, books, and various resources with all the information needed to answer any questions.
The library’s professional staff is flexible to patients’ needs. Everyone has the ability to borrow materials for one month, then either renew or return them. Overlook Medical Center offers McKesson’s Horizon Patient Vision, allowing patients accessibility to the library’s resources right at their bedside. An electronic, television system enables the patient to obtain books, magazines, and other informative resources, as well as on-demand entertainment, internet, and e-mail.
Overlook’s employees, physicians, and students have the ability to take advantage of the library’s services as well. Similar to patients, they are allowed to borrow the materials. There is an interlibrary loan, where all employees have free access to journal articles and books not owned by Atlantic Health System libraries. A self-service system is available 24-hours a day, at the library, throughout the hospital, or via the Internet at home. With an Atlantic Health System id and password, database searches are available anywhere off-campus.
