Westfield's Franklin Elementary PTO Holds 15th Annual Pumpkin Fair

WESTFIELD, NJ--Fall was in the air as the Franklin Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) held its 15th annual Pumpkin Fair on October 13.
“We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day,”said Dana Kaplan-Richter, Franklin PTO co-president.
Complete with carnival games, face-painting, glitter tattoos, crafts, baked goods, raffles and prizes, this festival had it all. With over 20 Halloween-themed crafts and games for the kids, there was no shortage of entertainment. Games included Skull-N-Toss, Prize is Right, Goldfish Game, Tic-Tac-Tarantula and Alley Cat Lanes. Winners of games were given tickets that could be exchanged for prizes.
“One of the most favorite events is the cookie walk, which is a musical chairs-type game where there is always a winner of a large 12-inch cookie baked with love by so many different volunteers,” explained Kaplan-Richter.
The baked goods table deserved a prize of its own with its collection of creatively designed and wrapped goodies tempting enough for even the most purist of foodies.
The festival was bustling with people throughout the day and volunteers took shifts to cover the five hours during which the event took place.
“The event itself takes well over one hundred volunteers, who work so hard for months leading up to the event,” said Kaplan-Richter.
“This is an annual community event that brings everyone together for a fun day and a great cause,” said Janine Mesbah, festival volunteer and former Franklin PTO corresponding secretary. “All proceeds fund educational programs for the students of Franklin Elementary throughout the year."
