Response to Letter to Senator

Albert Muller

Monday, October 29, 2012 • 8:51am

To the Editor:

I received the below response from Senator Menendez to my letter which is also shown below.  Leave it to be said, I wrote him that his answer failed to answer any of my questions.  He simply did the political "dodge" to my tax payer inquiry.  His response is what we have come to expect from politicians, but do not have to accept it.

I look forward to seeing his next letter, perhaps he will rectify the situation, but I have my doubts.  I send this to you in the media, to not just express my concerns on the health care reform bill but also to show the level of representation by those who want our vote and their accepting consequences of their actions.  Have we not heard that Americans are not in favor of the bill, and this fact is being ignored by those elected officials such as Senator Menendez who know "better" than us tax payers.  In fact, many of us predicted that employee's were going to lose their coverage from their employers.  The President said that you would be able to keep your coverage, but he did not mention that your company had to keep providing it to you.

Dear Mr. Muller:

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  Your opinion is very important to me, and I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.

As you know, on June 28, 2012, the Supreme Court validated the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148). I believe that improving the health care delivery system in America is vital to our nation's progress and that is why I fully support this law. I am proud to have fought for our seniors, our young people, and our middle class families to provide quality, affordable health care. I will continue to oppose Republican efforts to repeal the law, kick young adults off their parents' insurance, force seniors on Medicare to pay more for their prescription drugs and return to the time when insurance companies were free to deny coverage to children with preexisting conditions, charge women higher premiums, and drop coverage when someone gets sick. While this may not have been the outcome you were hoping for, please know that I will keep your concerns in mind as we work to implement this landmark law.

On this, as with any issue, there are many different views.  I appreciate you taking the time to express your thoughts regarding this important issue, and please be assured that I will keep your views in mind.  I also invite you to visit my website (http://menendez.senate.gov) to learn more about how I am standing up for New Jersey families in the United States Senate.
