To the Editor:
On behalf of the American Cancer Society and the planning committee for the 2012 Relay for Life of Madison/Florham Park, we would like to thank the residents of Madison and Florham Park for showing us their hope, generosity, and support. More than 30 teams and 330 people spent Saturday night, June 23rd, walking the Madison High School track and raising close to $70,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Forty survivors opened the event by walking the Survivor Lap while community members, friends, family, and co-workers honored them with a round of applause. At nightfall, more than 450 luminaries were lit around the track, each one representing a loved one who has been diagnosed.
We want to thank all the volunteers who helped make the event a success. Without all of them, we never would have made it to this point. A special thank you goes to Madison High School and the Madison Board of Education for hosting the event on their grounds. We also would like to thank this year’s sponsors for their generosity, which include: Cathy D’s Hair Design, Dr. Julie Hall-DiGioia, and the Rotary Club of Madison.
Many generous local businesspeople and volunteers contributed their time and money during the months leading up to Relay and at the event itself. They include: 54 Main Bar and Grille, Timmy Amalfitano, Amici’s Ristorante and Pizza, Angelato Heavenly Ice Cream, Art Adventures, ATR, Boiling Springs Savings Bank, Cilento’s Italian Deli and Grille, Sharlys Dugan, Ferreiro Family, Amanda Fletcher, Florham Park Girl Scouts troops #1015 and #1630, Florham Park School District, Danielle Glancey Facepainting, Grace Church Gargoyles and Daughters of Zion, Hanover Floral Co., Haynes & Sons Landscaping, Imagine That!!!, Madison Area YMCA, Madison Boy Scouts troop #25, Madison Fire Department, Madison High School Marching Dodgers Band, Madison School District, soccer coach Charles Malone, Dr. Anne Matlack, New York Jets, Orloff Family, Paint the Town Purple participants, Ridgedale Middle School art teacher Emma Petrocelli, Pioneer Rentals, zumba instructor Andrea Pleckaitis, Powerhouse Studios and Entertainment, yoga instructor Cheryl Riker, Rosewood, Running Late, Starbucks, Trader Joe’s, The Undertakers, Zizza and Sons Deli and Bakery; guest speakers Dr. Mark Gleckner and Gerard Longo; the Relay for Life of Madison/Florham Park committee; and countless volunteers.
