November 8th Update for Chatham Township Residents

Nicole Hagner, Mayor, Chatham Township

Thursday, November 8, 2012 • 12:49pm

I just spoke with JCP&L VP External Affairs, who indicated that crews are working on the Southern Blvd at River Rd damage that feeds the River Rd condos. He indicated that they have made significant progress in repairing the 30 poles damaged all along this circuit, and hopes to have up power to the condos by late tonight, but more certainly tomorrow.

I am embarrassed to say that I am still waiting for an official update from our JCP&L Area Manager on today's plan for other crews making repairs to more localized outages throughout our town. Our DPW reports that there are line crews working on and around Shunpike, and the men indicate that they will be making their way through the adjacent neighborhoods down to Lafayette. I also just had an update of power restored on Jay Rd., so it appears at least that part of their plan has line crews working around that area.

We have made JCP&L aware of all spot outages that we have in our inventory, but they have not accepted our offer to help with maintaining their list of outages. Again, to all of you who ask that we get JCP&L crews to your street, I can only repeat that the Township has no ability to push JCP&L to restore or even assess any one area over another unless we can demonstrate there is a critical need such as emergency service facilities, nursing homes or treatment plants. Other than the large circuit that feeds the River Rd condos, we have been told that all major repairs are complete and that they are now executing their plan to fix smaller pockets.

When I have further details on that plan I will post the information.

Mayor Nicole Hagner
