Mike,

I usually do not respond to Articles written in the alternative press and never reference or attack anyone by name. I will state my positions and let the public make their decisions.

In response to the $40 Million Crown Jewel - Really!

We should remember what was originally planned for this Toxic Site. It was supposed to be over 250 Apartment Units. What would the Infrastructure Cost to the Town have been?  Consider everything to Extra Police, Demands on the Sewer Plant, Traffic, Impact on School Costs with Extra Students and the Extra costs incurred on overall all Services.

Our Senior Citizens deserve place to meet and recreate. We have a growing need for sports and entertainment space for residents of all ages. This Complex will fulfill those needs

Opponents Fail to mention (and They Know This) that The Community / Senior Center will be the First Step in Developing the Town Hall Municipal Property. When we move the Recreation Commission to Stanford Drive, the building that they now occupy can be razed and a design to for a New Municipal Complex can be sought after. This New Municipal complex should include a new and Modernized Police Headquarters, New Town Library and New Town Hall. It should also include Retail and Food Establishments considering its location to the Train Station.

I ask the resident to remember that this site was a Toxic Waste site full of Harmful Contaminants and Asbestos and it was readily accessible to just about anyone. Now it is a clean site and the $3.5 million to clean it was not borne by the taxpayers of Berkeley Heights it was paid for by the previous developer. Together with the Ball Parks, Community / Senior center and the Preserved Wetlands, I believe it will be a Jewel. I know it will not be the Dump it was if we did nothing!  I look forward hearing or receiving comments and input from the public. Thank you

Warmest Regards,
