MAPLEWOOD, NJ -- Auditions for the 2014-2015 season of Youth Orchestras of Essex County will be held on Monday June 2, and Monday, June 9.
The orchestras finished their spring season with two concerts in mid-May, performing at the South Orange Performing Arts Center on May 18 and at Kessler Rehabilitation Center in West Orange the next evening.
Members of the four groups in the Youth Orchestras, who range in age from 7 to 18, played to a full house at SOPAC. This concert highlighted pieces the Youth Orchestras had been working on all session and featured two young soloist competition winners. Metropolitan Opera singer Philip Cokorinos also joined the Junior Orchestra for a song onstage.
They also performed for residents of the Kessler Rehabilitation Center . Conductors picked their favorite pieces from the season and the young musicians put on an hour-plus show.
The mission of the Youth Orchestras is to provide a diverse and musically talented group of young people the opportunity to participate in an affordable, high-level orchestra experience and cultivate a lifelong love of music. Musicians also participate in sectionals throughout the season with high-level coaches.
