Teaching the Holocaust in High School: Social Studies Will Never be the Same
On Sunday, April 7 the Temple B’nai Abraham family will gather to commemorate Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) with a service at 5:00 PM. Guest speaker will be Temple member Jill Tejeda. Ms. Tejeda, widely recognized as an innovator in Holocaust education, is an award-winning teacher at Livingston High School, where she teaches a popular course entitled Holocaust and Genocide. She will share with us her thoughts about teaching the Holocaust, what works and what does not, the challenges the topic brings, and the fundamental question of why she feels so strongly that this should be part of high school education. The community is welcome to attend. For information, please call 973-994-2290 or visit www.tbanj.org.
