SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- On Friday, June 20th, from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m., the JCC of Central New Jersey will take part in The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL), which has a goal of building awareness about the importance of teaching children to swim and preventing drowning. Hundreds of aquatic facilities from more than 20 countries will host local WLSL lessons simultaneously at 11:00 a.m. (EDT) to break the Guinness World Record.
“This is our second time participating in WLSL, and we had a great time,” said Kim Koza, Aquatics Director. “Last year, we decided to participate because it was a new opportunity and to be part of the Guinness Book of World Records.”
Swimming is a life-saving skill for children and a vital tool to prevent drowning, the second leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for children ages 1-14. The World's Largest Swimming Lesson™ was created to serve as a platform to help local community aquatic facilities and the many different national, regional and statewide water safety and drowning prevention organizations work together to tell this important story on a local and national level.
The JCC expects 60 people to sign-up. The age limit is 6 months and older. To reserve a spot for your swimmer, please email Kim Koza at firstname.lastname@example.org.
