World/U.S. Amateur East Team Chess Tournament Local Team Win‏‏s

PARSIPPANY, NJ - This Presidents Day weekend, despite a snowstorm,  more than 1160 chess players participated in the annual World/U.S. Amateur East Team Chess Tournament held  at  Hilton in Parsippany. This is one of the biggest Chess tournaments in the North East US and several Grandmasters and Masters participated in this event. There were 278 chess teams, each team consisted of 4 players, each player  played  six rounds of chess games for three days. Each game could last up to a maximum of 6 hours.

The Team  Chessaholics 2   took first place in the under 1600 section this year. This is the second consecutive year that they won the tournament .  Last year they won U1500.  Playing on board 1, Varun Maheshwari from Livingston's Heritage Middle School, followed by Shivani Shanmugadas on Board 2 from Millburn High School, followed by Brahmteg Minhas on Board 3 and Sindu Shanmugadas on Board 4 both from Millburn Middle School.
