Working to Create Good-Paying Jobs

Rep. Leonard Lance (NJ-07)

Friday, July 11, 2014 • 2:20pm

The U.S. House of Representatives passed two more jobs bills this week that continue to give employers the tools they need to hire more workers.

One measure expected to be signed into law by President Obama in the coming days would streamline the process for connecting employers with job seekers and coordinate education and employment programs. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act will reform and improve our Nation’s outdated workforce training programs so New Jersey’s job seekers can obtain the skills they need to go back to work.  This measure passed with strong bipartisan support.  This soon-to-be law is a win for taxpayers, job seekers and employers.

A second extends a tax credit for companies that invest in major projects. Making this credit permanent will provide much-needed certainty in lowering the cost of capital improvements for American businesses. A farmer in Hunterdon County can now invest in a new tractor or equipment knowing tax credit policies are going to be in place next year. This will help businessmen and women plan for the future and expand their workforce.

Many other measures that include increasing American-made energy, incentivizing hiring and streamlining red tape sit in the United States Senate awaiting consideration.  I urge the U.S. Senate to consider these common-sense proposals to help put as many Americans back to work as possible.

Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07)
