WOPAL Pee Wee Mustangs Top East Orange, 16-8, to Advance to Finals

MONTCLAIR, NJ - The West Orange PAL Pee Wee Mustangs defeated East Orange, 16-8, in the first round of championship football playoffs held at Woodman Field in Montclair on Sunday.
 
Running back Divine Zaire scored the first touchdown on a 14-yard run. Makhi Green added the two point conversion. Later in the first half, Pharele Brun scored on a 5-yard run. Green scored the two-point conversion again to put the Mustangs up, 16-0. East Orange scored right before the half to make it 16-8.
 
The West Orange defense held strong in the second half and the offense controlled the possession of the ball to hold off East Orange. Zander Timothy put the game away with a quarterback sack in the end zone for a safety. Green led the team in rushing with 58 yards on 11 carries. Dorian Rawls, Zander Lipsey, Shakhi Carson, Brun and Zaire all excelled in backfield. They combined for 98 yards to compliment Green. Sean Brown led the team at quarterback and hit Jayson Raines with two big pass plays for 36 yards, including one on a key fourth down conversion. Chris Parsons, Jordan Quiles, Syncere Flanagan, Adrain Charles and Rawls were standouts defensively. 
 
The JV played a tough back-and-forth game against Montclair. Shane Mills led as running back and scored a touchdown and an extra point for the Mustangs. Quarterback Cade Lipsey scored the second touchdown. Tony Homere came up with a big interception to set up a Mustang lead.  Late in the fourth, the Mustangs were up 13-7, but Montclair tied the game, going into overtime.  Montclair scored first, winning the game 19-13 to defeat the Mustangs. It was an exciting game with outstanding efforts by all players including Stephon Ali-Ramproop, Miguel Campo and Jacob Maurice.
 
The Pee Wees will face Clifton for the championship on Sunday at West Orange High School.
