PATERSON, NJ - A 30-year-old woman was wounded during a shootout at a party on Montgomery Street early Saturday morning, police said.

Sgt. Patrick Murray, head of the Cease-Fire unit, said a dispute between two groups of people at the party sparked an exchange of gunfire at about 5:10 am on the dead-end block of Montgomery near Rosa Parks Boulevard. Ballistics evidence from at least two guns was recovered at the scene, police said.

The party, Murray said, was being in the outside yard area behind a commercial building that apparently once was used as a maintenance garage.

The woman, a resident of E. 31st Stree, apparently was not involved in the shootout, but simply was at the party. She suffered a graze wound to the chest and was treated and released from St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

This summer, Paterson police busted an after-hours club on the same block. Authorities are looking into the possibility that the party involved in the shooting also was functioning as an after-hours business.
