ROBBINSVILLE, NJ – Recently, the Accounting firm Wiss & Company, which is headquartered in Livingston and has been serving the New Jersey/New York metro area since 1969, was honored by the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials (NJASBO) with the organization’s 2014 Above & Beyond Award for its ongoing commitment to helping school districts throughout New Jersey remain financially stable and in compliance with state and federal laws. NJASBO gives this annual award to companies who have gone “above and beyond” in assisting school districts with whom they work.

Brian P. DeLucia, School Business Administrator/Board Secretary for the Dunellen Board of Education, and Derek J. Jess, NJASBO Immediate Past President and School Business Administrator for Perth Amboy Public Schools nominated The Public Sector Services practice at Wiss & Company. In his nomination, DeLucia cited a recent “riveting presentation” that Wiss’ Public Sector Services practice gave to more than 80 NJASBO members on the GASB Statement.

“Wiss constantly provides professional development opportunities through seminars at the NJASBO Annual conference and through local ASBO county meetings – free of charge – and any time they are asked,” said Jess. “The professional care and dedication that Wiss provides helps New Jersey school districts remain financially stable, in compliance with all state and federal laws, and ensures that school funds are being used to the purpose that they are intended for – providing our students with a quality education.”

Both Jess and DeLucia especially recognized Scott Clelland, Partner-in-Charge of the Public Sector Services practice at Wiss & Company, who also serves as a CAFR reviewer for International ASBO Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Program. He said he was “thrilled to death” upon being told the company was receiving the prestigious award.

“As the Vice Chair of the ASBO International Advisory Committee for the Certificate of Excellence Program, I can attest to the countless hours of volunteer service that Mr. Clelland has provided to numerous school districts throughout the country,” said DeLucia.

However, Clelland was quick to point out that NJASBO is honoring the Public Sector Services practice, not him, individually. “Everyone in the practice puts a lot of effort and time into the organization [NJASBO],” said Clelland. “It’s a thrill to be recognized for our accomplishments.” In addition to Clelland, other practice leaders include: David Gannon, Michael Androla, and Diana Miller.

Clelland said Wiss “loves working with NJASBO. They are a great organization and it is an even higher honor to be recognized by a group that you respect so much.”
