Winter Ice Storm Luna Hits West Essex Area Today
Monday, January 28, 2013 • 8:45am
WEST ESSEX, NJ - Icy Winter Storm Luna is now approaching our area; it already hit the Midwest hard yesterday. Last night, the storm caused 4,000 outages in Illinois because of ice accumulations on power lines. Over 200 flights were canceled at Chicago's O'Hare Int'l Airport Sunday, and this morning over 200 flights have been canceled at both Newark and LaGuardia Airports.
Our Winter Weather Advisory for Snow / Sleet / Freezing Rain is from 10am until 6pm today. Accumulation should be less than 1" but travel will be difficult.
Snow is expected to begin around 10am which will gradually turn to Sleet and Freezing Rain; all combined may make for dangerous conditions on the roadways. For a detailed weather update from the Fairfield, Essex County Airport, read Monday, January 28th, West Essex Weather.
Residents are reminded, in the case of a power outage, to alert PSE&G to their outage location. Call them and also report the address online so that it "pings" the computer system. To report online, you must be registered online first with their website.
