NEWTON, NJ - It is the height of summer, yet while local residents are enjoying sunny skies and warm temperatures, Sussex County Community College (SCCC) in Newton is gearing up for the snowy season, in a classic way.

Irving Berlin's " White Christmas" is coming to town, before Santa, and the college is seeking students and others in the SCCC community, as well as members of the public, to star in the musical.

“We encourage both young and mature people who want a first chance at acting in a musical, or who wish to return to the stage, to join the cast of this heartwarming and humorous holiday musical. White Christmas will make its premiere in Sussex County at the Performing Arts Center at Sussex County Community College this year,” said Stella Trikouros, the show's director.

Auditions for the show, which will have a run of five performances between Dec. 6 and Dec. 8 (times to be announced), are scheduled for: Wednesday, Sept. 4; Thursday, Sept. 5; Monday, Sept. 9 and Tuesday, Sept. 10. A day is set aside if additional callbacks are required, on Thursday, Sept. 12.

In addition to Trikouros, other members of the team bringing the production to life include: musical director Phil Lid, choreographer Kimberly Jackson and technical director Bryan Zellmer.

“Auditioning is stressful, so I like to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible,” said Trikouros.

The audition will comprise of: a two-minute song of the auditioner's choice (accompanied by CD or sung acapella), reading from a script, improvisation and dancing in a small group. During the vocal audition, people will be segmented into groups of four.

In addition to the two-minute song, actors should bring a photo for identification (the photo will not be returned) and should wear comfortable shoes and clothing to participate in basic movements.

Actors of all levels, from novice to experienced, are invited to audition. Some notable parts that need to be filled for the audition call are: two young men, two young women, an older man, an older woman and a young girl about age 10. An ensemble cast for large musical numbers and several speaking roles round out the performance.

"White Christmas" has become a staple in American holiday culture. The performances to be held at SCCC, are based on the musical adaptation of the well-known film starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. In the film, Crosby's and Kaye's characters are a successful song and dance team, who become so, after their departure from from the Army in World War II. As they do, their minds are also on romance, when the meet a pair of sisters in the entertainment industry and follow them to a Vermont Lodge for a show. The lodge, it turns out, to be owned by their former Army commander.

In addition to the timeless song, "White Christmas," other known featured songs from the score are:  "Blue Skies," "I Love A Piano" and "How Deep Is the Ocean."
