WEST ORANGE, NJ - What's going on in and around West Orange this week?  Find out here.

Remember to check out the Essex County Environmental Center in Roseland.  You can attend single classes or a series.  This month's offerings include: Thursday evening Yoga series; Adult Wilderness Skills Camp; Friday morning Yoga; 4-H Young Gardener's Club; Meditation Series for Beginners; Little Explorer's Summer Stroll; 4-H Lego Club, and much more.

The West Orange Public Library continues to offer programs for children and adults. We'll highlight a few here, but check their website for a full listing.

Monday, August 12

As per NJAWC, Monday’s road closure schedule is as follows:  

Hazel Avenue from Pine Street to Oak Ridge Road CLOSED

Tremont Avenue Closed

Due to water line maintenance by NJ American Water Company in the Gregory section of town, there have been and will continue to be road closures in that area.

We apologize for any inconvenience experienced by residents, commuter shuttle riders and drivers who are sometimes rerouted to other streets. We will do our best to provide road closure updates.

Tuesday, August 13

The voting polls will be open in West Orange from  6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, for Democrat and Republican special primary elections to determine which candidates will run in the United States Senate special election on Oct. 16.

Wednesday, August 14

Energy Aggregation Public Information Meeting, 7:00 pm, Edison Middle School.  Join the Mayor, town officials and representatives from Gabel Associates, who will explain the plan for the new energy aggregation program, how it affects residents and business, and how it will save taxpayer dollars.  Residents will be able to ask questions.

Creative Connections at the West Orange Public Library, 7:15-8:30 pm.  Creative Connection is a partnership with the West Orange Arts Council.  This monthly discussion group will focus on the creative process. Topics will include many things that affect artists, such as creative blocks, preparing for projects and competing in the marketplace. The group also offers a place to receive constructive feedback on your work. Everyone who enjoys the creative process is welcome.

Thursday, August 15

The Marx Brothers classic, "Duck Soup" will be shown at the West Orange Public Library, 7:00-8:45.

Family Movie Night at the Oscar Schindler Performing Arts Center. Showing Johnny Depp in "The Curse of the Black Pearl."  Gates open at 7:00 pm, and the movie begins at 8:00.

Zoning Board Meeting, Town Hall, 8:00 - 10:30 pm.  See the Draft Agenda.

Open Mic Night at the Shillelagh Club, 648 Prospect Avenue,  with Dan Duca.  All are welcome to come and jam in a friendly setting with proceeds going to Hurricane Sandy relief.  No cover.

Friday, August 16

Farmer's Market at Quigley Parking Lot, intersection of Main, Harrison and Eagle Rock Avenues, 12-6 pm. The vendor list keeps growing... fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables; flowers; dried nuts and fruits; honey; pickles; tapenades, and much more.

"The Lucky One" starring Zac Efron will be shown at the West Orange Public Library from 2:00-5:15.  Dessert is included!

"Test Pattern," a unique band comprised of a  Scottish singer, Argentinian Guitar player / song writer, Israeli Bass player, and a German Drummer, will perform at the Oscar Schindler Performing Arts Center.  Gates open at 7:00, show begins at 8:00 pm.  Free.
