What's Happening at the Essex County Environmental Center

ROSELAND, NJ - The Essex County Environmental Center, located at 621 Eagle Rock Avenue in Roseland, is offering a variety of programs in October and November for children and adults.  

“Our Environmental Center has become the premier location for environmental education and nature appreciation. With the help of our partner groups, our dynamic schedule of events and activities will captivate all ages,” DiVincenzo said. “Walk in our woods, discover habitats, get pointers on gardening, learn about nature photography and much more. It’s all about nature and it’s all at our Environmental Center,” he added.

Here's a sampling of what the Center is offering:

“Little Explorers Fall Nature Program” is for young children ages 2 to 5. Both child and caregiver will join a class that uses stories, walks, and crafts to foster a sense of appreciation and awareness for science and nature. The program will be held rain or shine. Cost is $7 per child/session. Advance registration and payment are required. For information, call 973-228-8776. October 25.

“Thursday Evening Yoga Series” is an adult yoga series for all levels.  Alignment, flow and warmth will be the focus, ending with a restorative pose to unwind the body and mind for bed. Dress comfortably and bring your own mat. Cost is $40. Advance registration and monthly payment is required. For information, call 973-228-8776. October 24 and 31.

“Friday Morning Yoga” is an adult beginner class that will teach breathing and body movement. All levels are welcome. Join for the series or just one class. Meditation Series for Beginners"  is an adult class that will teach different meditation techniques including visualization, sound and breath, give various hints and suggestions for establishing a regular practice, and help in stress release. Cost is $9 per adult per class or $23 for the series.Advance registration is required. Tuesday Afternoon Yoga” is an adult class focusing on long-held seated poses. The class will help to lengthen muscles to increase range of motion and free up areas of limitation. All levels are welcome. Dress comfortably and bring your own mat. Cost is $10 per class. Advance registration is required. For information, call 973-228-8776. October 22 and 29.

“Kids in the Kitchen Club” is for children ages 8 to 12. Kids will learn to cook healthy and tasty snacks like pizza, cookies, kale chips, fresh apple sauce, and more. Meet in Garibaldi Hall. Cost is $10 per child per session (material fees included). Advance registration and payment are required. “Kids Eat Healthy” is for children ages 6 to 12. Food Day is a nationwide movement advocating more healthy, affordable and sustainable food.  Cost is $7 per child. Advance registration is required. For information, call 973-228-8776. October 24.

“Tree Whispering – Healing Whispers” is for adults. Stay after 1 p.m. and The Tree Whisperer® Dr. Jim Conroy will direct a hands-on, energy-based tree-healing. Bring lunch if staying late. Cost is $45 per person. Advance registration is required. For information, call 201-745-5494. October 26.

“New Jersey Woodturners” is for adults. Learn to turn with the NJ Woodturners Association. Discover the wonders of creating art from found pieces of wood. Cost is $9 per adult and free for NJWA members.  October 28.

“Birding Hike in Essex County Grover Cleveland Park” is presented by New Jersey Audubon. Visit Grover Cleveland Park and an Essex Fells reserve. Meet at the tennis courts on Brookside Avenue near Gould Place. Cost is $6 for NJA members and $8 for non-members. Please call 908-766-5787 or e-mail kelly.wenzel@njaudubon.org to register.
