WEST ORANGE, NJ -  September has arrived and with it a whirlwind of activities and events throughout West Orange.  There's something for everyone this week, from fund raisers, the Annual Run/Walk for Nikhil, the Family Fan Fest at West Orange High School, the first Mountaineer football game v. West Essex under the lights, and the Town Picnic, featuring a DIY-Home Improvement Workshop.

Monday, September 16

Please continue to check the www.westorange.org website for current information on road closures in the Greogry section as NJ American Water continues work.

Remember, the new West Orange Commingled Recycling program is in full operation.  Residents all over over town have welcomed it enthusiastically. Put out all your commingled recycling on the day of your first trash pickup and watch it disappear!

Tuesday, September 17

The Energy Commission will meet in the Town Hall Conference room from 7-9.

The Town Council meeting will be held beginning at 6:30 pm for the Conference Agenda and 7:00 pm for the Public Agenda

A review of the agenda points to some potential issues:

180-13 Resolution Authorizing Competitive Contracting for Emergency Medical Services – The West Orange First Aid Squad must now go out to bid for their Emergency Services to the township;

181-13 Resolution Authorizing the Mayor to Execute Professional Service Contracts for Mr. Trenk as Township Attorney and Ken Kayser as Assistant Township Attorney;

a. 2382-13 An Ordinance Amending and Supplementing Chapter III, Section 3-5, of the Revised GeneralOrdinances of the Township of West Orange Entitled "Rules of Council", "Agenda", and Section 3-8,"Order of Business" – Councilman Krakoviak has already opposed the Ordinance on first reading and some residents are concerned it will limit the ability to fully discuss issues, among other things.

Wednesday, September 18

Mayor Parisi, Township Staff and the West Orange Food Pantry will once again participate in Shoprite’s Bag Hunger event at the West Orange location from noon to 1:00 pm.  September is Hunger Awareness month.

Teen Game Night will be held at the West Orange Public Library for grades 6-12; 7:00 – 8:30 pm.

West Orange's finest, Rich McDonald, hosts the final Stars Under the Stars-Garden State Comedy night at Egan’s on Harrison Avenue beginning at 9:00 pm.  The event is free. 

Thursday, September 19

Burgers and Brew, a fundraiser for La Casa de Don Pedro, an Essex County social service and community development organization, will be held at McLoone's Boathouse from 6:00 - 8:30 pm.  The event, in partnership with Essex County, will feature NBC Anchor Pat Battle as host, Essex County Executive Joe DiVincenzo, food, music and more.

Mayor Parisi holds Open Office Hours from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Town Hall.

Cash Flow Meeting at the West Orange Public Library 7:00 – 8:30 pm.

Cash flow is the life blood of a business and without it a business will fail.  This SCORE seminar will discuss the importance of cash flow, how to measure it and what policies and procedures need to be in place to effectively manage it.  This is a must attend seminar for those preparing business plans or running existing businesses.
 
This SCORE seminar is a partnership between the Library and the West Orange Chamber of Commerce.

Friday, September 20

The West Orange Farmer’s Market will be held in the Quigley Avenue parking lot at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Main Street from noon to 6:00 pm.

A Place at the Table” a documentary about hunger in America, will take place beginning at 7:00 pm at United Presbyterian Church, 20 Old Indian Road. It will be followed by a short panel discussion and refreshments.

“Slight Imperfection” with special guest David Alonso, performs at NJAI/OSPAC.  Doors open at 7:00 and the show begins at 8:00 pm.  The event is free. Bring your blankets and your chairs.

Saturday, September 21

WOHS and the WOHS PTA host a huge community oriented “Family Fan Fest” with rides, entertainment, food and an appearance by the new WOHS mascot.  The event runs from 4:00 -7:00 pm.  All are invited and there is no entrance fee. (There will be a small fee for food and inflatables).  

At 7:00 pm, the West Orange Mountaineer Varsity Football team will play their first game under the new lights at Suriano Stadium, hoping to beat West Essex.

Sunday, September 22

The Third Annual Run/Walk for Nikhil will take place at West Orange High School and there's still time to join in on an important cause by donating or participating.

The Annual West Orange Town Picnic, featuring a Home Improvement Workshop,  will take place between 1:00 and 4:00 at Liberty Middle School, 1 Kelly Drive.  The event is free and will include food, DJ, information booths and entertainment.  The yearly event is organized by the West Orange Public Relations Commission.
