Wharton Music Center Hosts Key Donors at Celebratory Reception

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Wharton Music Center hosted key donors at a Celebratory Reception on Thursday, Sept. 6, at its newly renovated facility in New Providence that is home to the New Jersey Youth Symphony. The reception was a celebration of the combination of Wharton Music Center and New Jersey Youth Symphony which formally combined in July 2012.
Donors, trustees, faculty, and staff of Wharton Music Center were treated to the first movement of Dvorak’s String Quartet No. 12, Opus 96 known as the American Quartet performed by the NJYS String Quartet. Members of the NJYS String Quartet included Alex Wang (violin), Yuji Sugimoto (violin), Cecelia Sha (cello), and Johanna Nowik (viola).
Executive Director Derek Mithaug and Board of Trustees President Lenore Davis thanked donors for their generosity and gave special thanks to Howard Kailes, member of the Board of Trustees and a partner of McCarter & English LLC, for his legal counsel and guidance on the organizations’ combination.
WMC offers private and group lessons in music, dance, and theater and retains a faculty of over 60 instructors from among the top music schools and conservatories worldwide. New Jersey Youth Symphony with an integrated continuum of three full orchestras, three string orchestras, a percussion ensemble, and two flute ensembles performs 30 concerts annually, ranging from major orchestral works to specially commissioned music from New Jersey composers. About 380 students ranging in age from third grade to twelfth grade participate among all of the orchestras.
