WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield’s own New Jersey Festival Orchestra will perform a New Year’s Eve concert, “An’ All That Jazz,” filled with American musical theater classics and jazz favorites. Revelers of all ages can expect to hear music by Irving Berlin, Marvin Hamlisch, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, Boublil and Schonberg and Leonard Bernstein, among others.

“Our audience, we believe, is looking for entertainment they can relate to and put them in a celebratory mood,” said Music Director and Conductor David Wroe. “We feel classics from our American musical theater tradition does just that. It’s music which touches on our emotions, expressing, in a very direct way, concepts of love and joy, and using music as a vehicle to be uplifted and inspired—the perfect state to be in to usher in the new year.”

“We always highlight the great composers of the ‘Great White Way,’ and this year will be no different. However, this year we will also be incorporating a popular jazz dimension to the performance,” Wroe revealed. “For example, one of the many highlights will be a performance of Malneck and Mercer’s well-known song ‘Goody Goody’ with an Ella Fitzgerald arrangement.”

Guest solists Siri Howard, Gabrielle Stravelli, Max Quinlan and Angelo Luis Rios will sing that evening.

“The quality of the artists participating in the program is second to none,” said Wroe. “And I am thrilled and honored to work with such top-notch professionals from the Broadway stage and beyond.”

The concert, which begins at 7 p.m. at Westfield High School, is made possible in part by The Westfield Foundation.

Advanced ticket purchase is recommended, as the 2012 NYE concert sold out ahead of time.

“Tickets are selling as fast as last year,” said Wroe. “All I can say is I’m pretty certain that there will be no seats available at the door.”

Cost is $40 for general admission and $70 for preferred seating. Buy tickets online at www.njfestivalorchestra.org or call 908-232-9400.
