WESTFIELD, NJ — Amuse, a French brasserie by Chef C.J. Reycraft, Jr., in the heart of Downtown Westfield, opens Tuesday night to much anticipation. Already the phones are ringing and at least one fan of Reycraft’s has booked standing reservations.

A graduate of the French Culinary Institute, while he served as chef de cuisine at Chez Catherine Reycraft garnered exceptional marks from critics, including Star-Ledger food columnist Cody Kendall “for well-focused dishes that consistently hit high marks for visuals that match the taste.”

Amuse, which is BYO, is designed to be casual and affordable—the kind of place where everyone wants to be a regular.

“We want to be the community place to go,” said Reycraft.

The menu includes upscale casual fare like moules frites (mussels with French fries), duck breast with celeriac puree, an appetizer of roasted bone marrow and a frissee salad topped with a poached duck egg. An entrée of steak frites (steak and French fries) with choron sauce and baby kohlrabi will cost you less than $30. At lunch, a juicy Amuse burger made with ground short ribs is just $15.

The restaurant already hosted several private events over the past few days for friends, family and local business owners, both to introduce the new restaurant and to give the staff a chance to get their footing before the soft opening Jan. 14. A grand opening is planned for the near future.

Amuse is located at 39 Elm Street. Hours are: Monday through Thursday, lunch noon to 3 p.m., dinner 5 p.m. to 9 p.m; Friday, lunch noon to 3 p.m, dinner 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, lunch noon to 4 p.m., dinner 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday, brunch 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. To make a reservation, click here or call 908-317-2640.
