WESTFIELD, NJ — Grädde Swedish Restaurant Owner and Chef Margaret Lager sent an email to customers Sunday announcing that the upscale restaurant is closed. In it, she thanked everyone for their patronage and support.

“We have a great opportunity to [buy] a wonderful Hotel in Sweden and the deal just got finalized,” she wrote.  She said that even though Grädde was fully booked on the weekends, they had decided to close the restaurant and move back to Sweden.

Grädde opened on Dec. 1, 2013 at 13 Elm St. in the space formerly occupied by Gabi’s Sushi & Noodles.

The closing is one of many changes the downtown Westfield restaurant scene is undergoing. Recently, Wild Greens closed its doors. Harvest Restaurant Group, which owns Urban Table in Basking Ridge and Roots Steakhouse in Summit, will soon open a new restaurant where Aquaviva Delle Fonte used to be.

Amuse, Westfield’s newest French restaurant, opened to much anticipation on Jan. 14 in the space previously occupied by Isabella’s. To read more about Amuse, click here.
