New York, NY —On August 21, Ella Allure Interior Design Center in Downtown Westfield took part in the second annual Picnic by Design, a benefit for Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA). Owner and Principal Designer Daniela Palumbo and her team—Vito Como and Palumbo’s sister Gabriela Palumbo—enjoyed the opportunity to be amongst the tri-state area’s top designers, help a favorite charity and gain exposure for both Ella Allure and the town of Westfield.
The prestigious event took at the Scholastic Building Rooftop Atrium, 557 Broadway, New York City. Picnic by Design redefines the concept of a traditional picnic with over-the-top designer baskets containing everything needed for a luxurious picnic. Baskets were sold online in advance for $300 and guests received their one-of-a-kind designer basket upon arrival. After being escorted to their decked-out picnic for two, guests dined and socialized while enjoying entertainment in a uniquely designed setting under the stars.
Ella Allure’s basket was a tribute to all American airlines during the luxurious “golden age” of travel, 1920-1959. Palumbo’s team gathered research and key pieces typical to travel during that era, such as vintage items once used by Delta, American Airlines and Untied Airlines.
“We also created a landing strip by adding lights to a United Airlines blanket for our dinners to rest upon,” said Daniela Palumbo. “We included in our picnic setting vintage luggage for all the necessities to be carried within—champagne and wine glasses, plates, utensils and textiles that were typical for first-class travelers.”
Picnic by Design was sponsored by Starbucks, Robert Allen, Maya Romanoff, with media sponsor dwell and industry sponsor New York Design Center. For more information, click here.
