WESTFIELD, NJ—Looking for the perfect Mother’s Day gift? The Friends of the Westfield Symphony Orchestra are offering a stunning faux pearl necklace to commemorate the 30-year “Pearl Anniversary” of Westfield Symphony Orchestra. This timeless classic, available in two styles—smaller pearls and larger pearls—is just $30 at Bittersweet Designs, 221 Lenox Ave., Westfield. All proceeds will benefit the WSO.

With revenue from ticket sales covering about 30 percent of the actual cost to put on a concert, The Friends of the WSO came up with the idea for elegant single-strands of individually knotted white opalescent faux pearls as a way to raise funds this year in addition to their annual home tour, which will take place May 11. The very affordable $30 price tag makes it accessible to all and also ties in with the 30th anniversary theme.

“The idea of the pearls came up while we were brainstorming special ways to commemorate Westfield Symphony's 30th year,” said Christine Bailey, a member of The Friends of the WSO. “Historically, the thirtieth anniversary is symbolized by pearls—so what better way to mark the occasion than with strands of pearls in honor of the symphony?”

The faux pearls also represent timelessness and elegance, making this the perfect gift for Mom or Grandma.

“It’s the perfect Mother’s Day gift not just because they’re pearls but also because you’re making a positive commitment to the musical life of the community,” said Elizabeth Ryan, director of marketing for the WSO.

“The feedback we've received thus far is that people not only enjoy the beauty of the necklace itself, but they also appreciate the notion of being able to give back and help fund the arts locally,” said Bailey. “And what woman doesn't like to don a strand of pearls with a sense of purpose? These help you to look good on the outside and feel good on the inside, as well.”

“Westfield Symphony Orchestra was founded 30 years ago by a group of visionary Westfield citizens who believed that the performance of symphonic music at a professional level adds value to the quality of community life,” noted Ryan. “Through its musical excellence, creative concerts, valued outreach programs, and thanks to unprecedented support from the WSO Friends, WSO has continued to grow and thrive artistically. Few communities of our size can boast a fully professional symphony orchestra or a world-class conductor such as Maestro David Wroe on their doorstep. The Westfield Symphony Orchestra is truly a gift of musical excellence that we hope will continue indefinitely.”

In addition to Bittersweet, the pearls will be available at upcoming WSO events, including the the May 11 Tour of Notable Homes and the June 2 WSO season finale.
