WESTFIELD, NJ—The Westfield Public School District has begun the bidding process for roof replacements on the schools that district architects have determined to be most in need of immediate work—Westfield High School, Roosevelt Intermediate School and Washington Elementary School.
The process began Feb. 21. According to the school district, contractors’ bids, which will be opened on March 26, will represent specified work to take place this summer.
“Our goal is to have construction occur in the summer, when students are not in school,” explained Superintendent of Schools Margaret Dolan in a press release. “The timing of the December 2012 bond makes it possible for a maximum of three of our schools to be worked on this summer. The high school project is particularly large and the need imminent.”
The $13.6 million bond referendum passed by Westfield voters in December was created to fund the replacement and repair of roofs on each of the 12 district-owned buildings. After the first three buildings are repaired, the remainder of the district’s school buildings will undergo roof work in the summer of 2014.
“I am grateful for the public’s approval of our bond and will provide updates of the progress of the work as it develops,” Dolan added.
