Westfield Resident Announces 'Volunteer Boot Camp'

Monday, June 16, 2014 • 12:55pm

Cardio isn’t the only thing that’s good for your heart. The Center for Volunteerism at Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ (Federation) invites adults to do something hands-on and heart-filled this summer through “Volunteer Boot Camp,” a series of weekly volunteer opportunities beginning June 23 and continuing through August 17. The program is being co-sponsored by JCC MetroWest’s Mitzvah Moments.

“It’s as simple as saying 'yes.' Yes, I’ll show up. I’ll help. And I’ll bring a friend. I want to volunteer,” said Maxine Schwartz of Westfield, Center for Volunteerism chair.

Volunteerism is integral to Federation’s mission of fulfilling the Jewish value of tikkun olam, repairing the world. Standing at the center of a network of 27 partner agencies, Federation is dedicated to providing comprehensive social services and meeting the educational, vocational, recreational, and social needs of Jews locally, in Israel, and in 70 countries around the world. Responding to emergency and disaster situations locally and around the world is another important part of the Federation mission.

The volunteer projects range from harvesting on an urban farm to rebuilding Union Beach, a community still struggling to recover from Hurricane Sandy, to swimming with teens with special needs.

March yourself to the project(s) of your choice or jump in for them all. Details and registration are available at www.jfedgmw.org/volunteer or by calling Stacey Brown at (973) 929-3027.
