WESTFIELD, NJ — Jodi Luminiello, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, Westfield, doesn’t make any money from her community Facebook page 365 Things To Do In Westfield, even though she’s gained over 7,750 followers since she started it a few years ago.

As both a residential and commercial real estate agent in Westfield, Luminiello was looking for a way to contribute something that could help boost the local market.

“I thought there had to be something I could do to promote the local shops. The downtown is part of what makes Westfield a great place to live, and when it’s thriving the town is thriving,” said Luminiello.

When she stumbled upon a site called “365 Things to do in Austin,” she thought the name had a nice ring to it.

“It said everything—there’s always something to do in Westfield,” said Luminiello.

The “365” isn’t literal, though. With Luminiello consistently putting up at least four posts each day, it might as well be called “Thousands of Things to do in Westfield.” Posts include shout-outs to local businesses, events, photos around town, giveaways and conversation starters on local topics.

In the beginning, Luminiello spent a lot of time going to local business owners to ask for ideas.

“The first business I ever reached out to was The Brick Oven,” she remembers. Another first? “The Running Company was one of my first supporters. They’ve been great.”

These days, “So many businesses are reaching out to me,” she said. “I ask people to tell me at least two weeks in advance when they have something they want me to post, because I plan these out ahead of time.”

Luminiello said that meeting and getting to know others in the community is its own reward.

“The feedback and the sincerity and the gratitude—it makes me happy to know I’m helping someone else,” she said.

One of her favorite memories this year was the thank-you she got from the organizers of Greta’s Run, a fundraiser for special needs programs at the Westfield Area Y in memory of a Westfield high schooler.

“There are so many people who are ‘givers’ in our community—giving time, giving money to those in need. That’s why 365 works so well here. Because they get it,” said Luminiello.
