During the time in the meeting for public comments, resident Greg Kasko spoke again about the town’s mobile command center and its use outside of Westfield.

At a past council conference meeting, regarding the use of the command center in other towns, Town Administrator Jim Gildea had said “None of the events with this equipment have incurred any overtime.” (To read that story, click here.) He also said that some officers changed their schedules in order to participate in Hoboken’s Super Bowl event, and others volunteered their time.

On Tuesday night, Kasko told the council that the use of the mobile command center at Hoboken’s Super Bowl festivities did result in overtime, because overtime was paid to officers in Westfield replacing the officers who went to work in Hoboken. He also said the PBA contract specifies that officers cannot work for free.

Also at Tuesday's meeting, Mayor Andy Skibitsky urged people to volunteer for the town’s Earth Day cleanup event April 26. To read our earlier story about that event, click here.
