On Wednesday, June 18 at 7:00 p.m., the Westfield Memorial Library presents, “Julia Child says Bon Appétit.” The library is located at 550 East Broad Street.

This lively one-woman play presented by performer Linda Kenyon brings this fascinating chef and cooking pioneer to life. Julia Child (1912-2004) was an American cook, author, and television personality who introduced French cuisine and cooking techniques to America. She was in the vanguard of “foodies” who by changing American's taste helped create modern American culture.

Her most famous works are the 1961 cookbook 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking,” and her first television series, “The French Chef.” Subsequently she starred in eleven other television series and was the author of eighteen other books. While her public face and voice became familiar to all of us, this play focuses on her private side--especially the relationship with her husband, Paul Child. Our play is a love story!

Julia tells us about her growing up in Southern California, her adventures during World War II (when she was not a spy), learning to cook French cuisine, learning to teach and write about the soul of cooking, and discovering her talent for being a public person and for being famous. But at her core was her love for Paul and his love for her.

Performer Linda Kenyon has a wealth of experience on stage, in television, and in performance. She has performed for the Virginia Shakespeare Company, the Maryland Renaissance Festival and the Washington Stage Guild.

The program is free and open to the public but audience members must register for the program by visiting the library’s website at www.wmlnj.org, clicking on Calendar, or by calling 908.789.4090 ext 0.
