Westfield Memorial Library Hosts Manhattan Lyric Opera
Monday, May 5, 2014 • 1:59pm
On Wednesday, May 21 at 7:00 p.m., the Westfield Memorial Library will present an evening with the Manhattan Lyric Opera Company. The library is located at 550 East Broad Street.
Founded in 1998 by opera singer and Artistic Director Anne Tormela, the Manhattan Lyric Opera Company is uniquely devoted to presenting elegant, concise, user-friendly staged and concert versions of the classic operas, operettas and Broadway works. The Company specializes in making the heart of this great music accessible.
Ms. Tormela will present highlights of the most beloved opera, operetta and Broadway classics for young and old, and opera experts and opera beginners alike. This evening’s program will concentrate on arias from operas by Puccini, Verdi, Donizetti and Bellini and special requests will also be welcomed.
A native New Yorker, Ms. Tormela specializes in bel-canto, operatic and early-music style. Her voice has been described as “ringing and strongly expressive” with “extraordinary vocal control.”(Leif Kramp, Critic/Lubecker Nachtrichten). Others have said she negotiates “the upper reaches (of her voice) with dazzling security.”(David Syrus, Head of Music, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden).
The program is free and open to Westfield Memorial Library and MURAL cardholders. (MURAL cardholders belong to libraries that are part of the Middlesex Union Reciprocal Agreement Libraries. Check our website to see if your library participates.) To register for the program, visit the library’s website at www.wmlnj.org, click on the Online Calendar, or call 908.789.4090 ext 0.
